Old Production Diary

4th February 2008 - Kevin Teaser Uploaded

I know it's a few days later than some of you were expecting and may have heard on forums but here it is. The next installment of the Ex Cathedra teaser trailer triology has been uploaded. Go to the trailer section of the site to find it. I will also be uploading ipod friendly mp4 versions of the trailers for any of you who wish to take them out with you to show your friends etc. The Kevin teaser isn't quite as dramatic as Corban's but we think it sets him up quite nicely really. It's all just a prelude to the final show you'll hopefully see in cinemas so you can make your judgements then eh? Editing is coming along on the full film as well. Paul has been sending me some great stuff score wise, and Mike tells me the sound is going well too, you guys are really in for an audio treat with this baby.

Over and out x

28th January 2008 - Tardiness

Sorry for the lack of updates recently to those of you who read this blog. The film is coming along really nicely and the story is starting to unravel well on screen. The IMDB entry is nearly up to date now and most people are up on there. If you're not why not try sending any corrections/updates directly to IMDB yourself through the website. I've submitted everyone but for some reason it's not picked them all up I think. Had some good developments on the soundtrack front recently too. We've got a new composer officially on board in the form of one young Paul Lloyd. He's a really great guy down south who has finally been able to break my ramblings and come up with the theme for the film that I've been looking for for over a year now so that's very cool.I hopefully should be heading down to London sometime soon to go through rough edits with Glen and Vicky so we're getting there finally!!

Again appologies for the lack of updates but I've had a lot of personal shit on recently and it's been hard enough to keep on with the film. No excuse in this industry but I'm using it so deal with it. Anyway, the second teaser trailer will be online as soon as the sound has been cleaned up so everyone who can't wait to see Garth in action the wait is nigh at its end.

Peace x

17th January 2008 - IMDB entry

Ex Cathedra was finally added to the IMDB database today which is great news. As it has only just been recognised by the industry at present there are no cast/crew details etc but that should all be updated within the coming week or so I'd have thought. The reason to include this in an entry is to ask any cast or crew members who do not appear on the page by the end of January to contact myself and give me their information. These things are rather complicated but easy to fix so don't worry, your listing will appear eventually.

You will be able to keep an eye on the Ex Cathedra page on IMDB for production updates and release information from now on but keep checking back here for all the inside news on the development of this exciting British Indie.

Out x

12th January 2008 - Pick Ups Day 2

Pick Ups went really well today with Garth and Rich on board back up in Yorkshire. We shot some alternative sequences for the opening of the film, finally got some amazing sunrise shots after a summer of cursing the sun and some snazy car shots. Yorkshire is beautiful even in the winter if you're looking for getting some great photography.

I just want to say a small thank you to all the cast and crew who made it up to Yorkshire for this shoot where we were battling with all the elements film crews loath, streaming rain, mixed cloud cover and direct sunlight. However, the shoot was relatively easy and laid back compared to a lot of the days during the summer. I'm also excited to see the juxtoposition between the bare leaved trees that will now stand prominent at the opening of the film and the lush greenery in all that follows. It's kind of a reversal of Aronofsky's summer/winter structure of Requiem for a Dream so we'll see how that works out.

Off to London.

11th January 2008 - Pick Ups Day 1

First Day of Pick Ups today. Got the equipment and went up into the Peak District to get some cool shots from a viaduct overlooking the M62. Hopefully they will come out alright and make for a nice eerie section in the opening to the film. It was really misty up there today and the viaduct is the highest road bridge in the whole of the UK standing over 100m above the motorway. It's quite a feat of engineering considering the M62 is the highest motorway in the UK. Some breathtaking sights, although some of these were hidden by the mist.

We go back to the church tomorrow with Rich and to Aughton to get a few more shots in the countryside with Garth so that should be entertaining. We're just picking up extras for the opening credits really now. So when you see the opening of the film and there's some really shoddy camera work and crap shots blame Mike *rolls eyes* hehe. This is the only time I've actually touched the camera for something that will make it into the final film. A rarity for me as I'm so used to be hands on. Mike has done an amazing job on the cinematography of this film so I won't begrudge him the fact that I miss touching those sexy cameras.

I'll be back.

10th January 2008

Happy New Year to you all!!

We are back up in York this weekend to shoot a few pick up shots for the film. It should be quite fun and relaxed compared to the summer. I'll leave a little message some time next week to let you all know how it went down. We're only shooting with Rich and Garth but we'll be thinking of the rest of the cast as we battle our way back up to the church and into the countryside.

I also recorded some rough V.O. stuff with Rich this week and added some exposition about Exente to the opening narration. So to all those who know the script you'll be in for a little bit of extra info on the background of the now infamous drug, Exente hehe. All aided by the great Huxley.

Edit is coming along nicely now almost into the second half of the film and thus Corban's story. Lots of sexy dialogue scenes to cut :)

Liam out.

31st December 2007

Just a quick message to wish everyone a Happy New Year and all the success in the world for 2008. There has been a small hiatus over the holiday period so not too much to report on. We should be finishing some pick ups in the second week of January and then after that it shouldn't be too long before the first rough cut of the film is finally completed.

In other news, we received an invitation to the Santa Barbarra International Film Festival this week which is totally out of the blue. Unfortunately the film won't be finished by the time they need a screener but its good to know that the festival circuit has started to get wind of our production. Hopefully, we'll have some success on the circuit in the first quarter of 2008 and who knows where we might end up.

Also, an interview with lead actress Rebecca Herod has now been added to the cast section.

18th December 2007

The photo gallery is now online with a few behind the scenes production stills for you to have a gander at. I've also updated the crew section so you can get a look at who's who from the Firefly Team. I obviously haven't uploaded pictures of the whole crew as that would be a bit too much of a task. There will be a full credits list up as soon as I get time though.

Take it easy.
Liam

17th December 2007

Not much news today. There should be some photos online by the end of the day though. Film is coming along nicely. Editing some cool scenes today. I'll maybe try and put some screen grabs up so that you can all have a look later. The Graphic Novel is definitely a go now also so stay tuned for that.

17:09
Just uploaded three snazy wallpapers for you all to enjoy. Some Behind The Scenes photos will be up by the end of the day also, with a snazy interface... dunno why I'm become attached to the word snazy but what the hell...

Once I've done this the site is going to have to go on hold for a while because I'm way behind with the editing as a result of doing all this.

Peace.

14th December 2007

Interviews have been added in the cast section from Paul, Safi and Glen. New content added daily. Come back soon for more stuff from the cast and crew as well as the much anticipated Graphic Novel, Ex Cathedra: Origin.

13th December 2007

Ok well the film is well and truly on its way. It's been a mad 18 months but we're on the home stretch now. The web site is finally online, although we can still all look forward to a shiny Flash site in the new year. I am becoming slightly attached to this simple design though myself. Anyway... once I've got the content I want up on here I will be getting back to what I should be doing which is editing. I'm up to scene 42 which will mean nothing to some of you but it's not as good as it sounds as there's 176 scenes in this stupid film. Whoever wrote such a contrived, rambling piece of crap should be shot!.... ah... nah I'm really proud of it. It's just a bitch to edit with it's flashback/rerun structure. In case you don't know the film's plot is a bit like an elongated Fight Club. You see everything from two different points of view, the second time realising things you missed out the first time. Hopefully, when you watch the whole film a second time there will also be new things for you to notice. That was the idea anyway.

I'll keep this short and sweet for now but stay tuned for more of my crazy ramblings as I endevour to stay cabin fever and create a monster.

If anyone fancies helping out with any sort of promotion such as adding people on myspace to our page or commenting on forums I would be much appreciated as I'm kinda snowed under at the moment and we need to keep the profile of this thing up. Once it really catches on it'll snowball by itself but at the moment it's like a small dinosaur baby and needs constant care and attention to keep it in the public eye.
