Safi Zisman talking to Ex Cathedra Movie.co.uk

How did you find out about Ex Cathedra and what made you audition for the part?

The London Casting Director, Sarah Ellis went to the same school as me so she sent out an email about the production. I filled out the form thinking that it would be good practice to go up for auditions.

What’s your first memory of production?

Probably not knowing who anyone was or what anyones name was but hoping that we were going to create something good.

And what was your favorite moment on set?

It would have to be the last day of filming. it was a massive effort by everyone. Everyone pulled together and braved the cold and sleep deprivation. It was a good way to finish the production.

What experience did you have before getting involved in this project?

I had just graduated from drama school so my previous experiences were minimal but I had worked with the New York film academy on their graduation films and this crew compare so much more favorably in so many departments.

Who did you enjoy working with the most out of the cast and crew?

It would have to be Paul, the majority of our scenes were together and we seemed to develop a good understanding of our characters relationships which I hope comes through in the film. However there were so many other members of the team who made coming on to the set so enjoyable. People like Mike Brown and Jacob Pye.

Did you feel any connection to your character especially by the end of the shoot?

Of course! I am Duke! No seriously I felt a big connection to Duke. I honestly felt that he was the most interesting character as there are so many different levels to him and he has a big journey to travel in the film. I felt having just graduated from drama school he was the perfect role for me.

Will anything from this project stay with you for future parts?

Of course, so much was learned and gained but I wouldn't have the space to write it all down. Let’s just say it was one of the best and eye opening opportunities I have head in my short career.

How do you think British audiences will receive the film?

If everything comes out as Liam hoped for, I think they can only enjoy it.

What advice would you give to other upcoming actors/actresses who are looking to get into film?

Grow a thick skin, but always believe in yourself. Easier said than done I know.

Do you think that low budget independent films can compare to the blockbusters churned out by Hollywood year after year?

Of course. I watch both. How many good blockbusters have been produced over the last few years? In all fairness how many of them have been good compelling stories? Very few. Compare that to the amount of interesting, well done stories that have been developed through film on an independent level. Independent films definitely can hold their own against the blockbuster.
